Penguin 4.0

Google announced Penguin 4.0 update at the end of September

Google announced the latest release of Penguin on September 23rd. The update has traditionally cracked down on spammy practices such as link farming.

This long-awaited iteration has been welcomed by many SEO agencies as it addresses some fundamental issues with previous versions and has become better integrated into Google’s core algorithm.

Some key highlights:

  • Penguin 4.0 is now part of Google’s core algorithm and updates in real-time
  • Links are devalued rather than punishing websites where suspicious activities are detected
  • “Negative SEO” is much harder to implement
  • Penguin recognises and values marketing practices (as it detects spam much more effectively)
