In the recent update to their publisher guidelines, Google has advised focusing on the following areas:
- Ensure titles are topical and capture the essence of the page/article. Avoid using clickbait and misleading CTAs.
- Keep any previews authentic and truthful. Try to avoid exaggeration in titles and images, and don’t mislead the reader by withholding essential information.
- Be completely transparent when sharing information about the author, publication, network, or business that is posting the article.
- Consider the quality of the images used. Try to show high-quality imagery and ensure they meet the required standards for large images on the web.
- Make sure the information you share provides a genuine and unique insight for the user.
The new guidelines also make note of EAT. EAT refers to Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness, and is a topic which we’ve all grown to be aware of when writing content.
