Google Introduce ‘People Cards’

A New Search Feature

As a leading SEO agency, we’re always intrigued by updates to Google search results, and the latest update from the search engine giant has certainly got us talking!

Earlier this week, Google announced the introduction of ‘People Cards.‘ This new feature acts as a virtual visiting card, allowing individuals to increase their online presence by showcasing a personal website, linking to social accounts, or simply sharing information about themselves.

Who Can Access This Feature?

As of this week, the new Google search feature is only available to mobile users in India, but we expect to see this rolled out to more locations over the coming months.

How Do I Create My Card?

Information on how to claim your card can be found over on the Google India blog, but the steps are pretty simple –

  1. Sign in to your Google account.
  2. Search for your name or use the phrase ‘add me to search’
  3. Click on the ‘Get started’ option.
  4. Enter your details.
  5. Provide a phone number for authentication

It’s worth noting that each Google account is limited to just one entry!

What If Someone Has The Same Name As Me?

With over 48,000 ‘John Smith’s’ in the US, it’s pretty clear this feature has it’s limits.

Google have stated that multiple cards will be shown in search results for queries of the same name, but this certainly raises the idea of ‘People Card’ SEO
