Earlier this month, Google launched a new tool for testing website speed. The tool, which is focused on providing insight on website speed, performance and usability, provides users with 3 scores – Mobile Friendliness, Mobile Speed and Desktop Speed.
Although Google’s announcement suggests the tool is new, many developers will recognise the similarities with Google Page Insights (a long-standing and well-known tool used by many to gauge performance).
The main difference between the new tool and Google Page Insights is page design, aimed more at consumers than developers, and the addition of a comprehensive report that Google will email to you.
Come on, Google. Is this a new tool or just a new data collection campaign?
